András Ernszt

András Ernszt (1973) was born in Nagykanizsa, lives and works in Pécs. He graduated in Fine Art at the University of Pécs, his masters were László Valkó and Ilona Keserü. He received his PhD in 2009 at the very same institute. Currently he is teaching drawing and painting at the Technical School of Fine Art and he is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Pécs on the Faculty of Music and Visual Arts. His works are frequently exhibited at solo and group shows in Hungary as well as abroad. He was awarded the Mihály Munkácsy Prize in 2022 and Strabag Painting Award in 2003.

András Ernszt’s non-figurative works are characterized by the intensive combination of dynamic structures and multiple layers, which strengthens the illusory tone in the act of copying and magnifying nature. Their plasticity connects the new works to his earlier ones, while the randomness of the arrangement of shapes determines a new direction.
