Sonia Navarro

Sonia Navarro was born in 1975 in Puerto Lumbreras, Spain. She currently lives and works in Madrid. She studied at the Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño School of Art in Murcia. She uses different media such as sculpture, installation, photography and drawing in her art. In recent years, she has become internationally recognized for his works, from sewn geometric leather and various textile images to folded carpet installations. Her work often deals with challenges and confrontations with mechanisms and institutions of power, focusing in particular on the systems that have contributed to the creation and maintenance of inequalities between gender and artistic techniques and genres. In 2023 she won the 38th BMW Painting Prize and in 2024 her works were included in the prestigious collection of the Reina Sofia in Madrid.
