Péter Somody (1963) was born in Veszprém, lives and works in Pécs. He was a student at Faculty of Visual Arts at Janus Pannonius University in Pécs, where he also received a teacher’s degree in 1988. He graduated in Fine Art at the University of Pécs, his masters were Ilona Keserü and Gyula Konkoly. He received his PhD in 2002 at the same institute. Many of his works were presented at solo and group exhibitions, both locally and internationallly. He won 3rd prize of national painting competition of Strabag in 2000 and was also awarded with the Munkácsy Award in 2015.
Péter Somody belongs to those artists who aspire to express complex aesthetic contents with few means. In his works he does not aspire to attain an individual message with few but precisely selected colours and various base surfaces, but to create, to unveil or to bring to life any hidden substances from the fundamentals of the materials of canvas, wood and plastic.
