Balázs Csizik

Balázs Csizik (1987, Székesfehérvár) earned his Master’s degree in Visual Communication at BME-GTK, during which he focused on the state of contemporary Hungarian abstract photography. He currently teaches visual communication and communication technology in the Communication and Media Studies program at BME, and is also involved in inter-university educational coordination.

His work is primarily influenced by contemporary architecture and the foundations of contemporary abstract art history—particularly the constructive forms of the early 20th century, as well as artistic approaches based on the reduction of color and form. His practice is characterized by abstract formal reduction, and by the creation of space and composition using primary colors and basic geometric shapes.

In his photo-based works, he simultaneously reflects on the visual language of abstract photography, the formal vocabulary of modern architecture, and the traditions of constructive and suprematist painting. A common feature of his series is reduction and minimalism, which appear consistently in color, composition, and depicted subject matter. This reductive approach also carries a certain rigidity, detachment, and resignation, aligning with the alienated visual language of the urban environments he portrays.

Within his works, the stark appearance of artificial materials and the organic surfaces of natural supports create tensions—even within a single piece—yet the overall image does not become disharmonious. The tension arising from the encounter between the artificial world created by humans and nature runs throughout his work, further intensified by the duality of digital and analog technical solutions within the pieces.
