Máté Orr
Máté Orr’s (b. 1985, Veszprém, Hungary) practice centres on scenes populated by animals, humans, and imagined creatures, often structured around moments of psychological tension shaped by control, resistance, and instinctive reaction. He is drawn to situations in which roles shift, power relations become unstable, and vulnerability and agency coexist. Developing an idea into a painting allows him to explore his own experiences, while the finished work, like a myth or a fable, becomes a condensed reflection of them. He has developed a distinctive and immediately recognisable visual language, characterised by flat, graphic elements and decorative patterning, while the theatrical quality of his compositions and their dreamlike scenes create a self-contained universe. Since 2011, he has presented numerous solo and group exhibitions in Hungary and internationally.
