Rexhep Ferri
Rexhep Ferri ( 1937, Kukes – 2024, Pristina) was a Kosovar Albanian painter, poet, and writer, and a key figure in the development of modern and contemporary art in Kosovo. His artistic practice is distinguished by a highly personal visual language and a sustained engagement with themes of human existence, identity, and historical memory, often rooted in the cultural and socio-political contexts of Albania and Kosovo.
Ferri was born in 1937 in Kukës, Albania. He received his early education in arts in Peja before continuing his studies at the Academy of Arts in Belgrade, where he specialised in applied arts. At the time, the Belgrade Academy was regarded as one of the most advanced art institutions in Yugoslavia and enjoyed considerable recognition across Europe. This academic environment played a formative role in shaping Ferri’s artistic approach and technical proficiency.
